The Story

Bunny mascot standing in front of 'Dundee Bairns' van

Dundee Bairns delivers approximately 3,000 - 4,000 meals per week during the April, Summer and October school holiday periods to over 100 different school and community projects which are delivering targeted activities and provision for children and families. We also deliver around 1,500 home essentials on a weekly basis through our Bairns at Home project to over 90 different referring partners across Dundee, supporting around 500 children per week.

The work that we do takes us out and about all over the city, supporting some of the most vulnerable children and their families.

Success & Outcomes

Each target we set was met and exceeded with around 28,000 meals delivered and 150,000 items to support families in need. 10,500 children were supported with food, clothing and home goods and with the van on the road, less volunteer cars and therefore less fuel was used.

Advice for others looking to do something similar

We were inspired by the climate fund to bid for an electric van because we wanted to be able to have a more planet-friendly delivery of our services. If I was advising anyone thinking about getting an EV van, I would advise them to do their research around insurers, especially if it’s a first vehicle, and to consider getting an EV charger on site for convenience and cost.
