The Story

Community food pantry with shelves stocked with canned and packaged food.

We provided 112 of our regular members with an air fryer and 5 LED energy saving lightbulbs. This was a response to tackling fuel poverty and food insecurity in the East End. By switching from cooking with an electric oven to an air fryer and swapping old lightbulbs with LED they will now use significantly less energy, therefore energy bills will decrease. As well as the economic benefits for our members they are also positively contributing to the goal of reducing energy consumption.

To accompany the air fryers, we also provided our members with recipe cards ad an ingredients bag each week to encourage usage and increase confidence in using the appliance. This project was so popular we decided to invest in purchasing more air fryers and extended the project to include vulnerable families identified by local school and family development workers in the local primary schools.

Success & Outcomes

We reached all of our targets in terms of the number of members having received air fryers and lightbulbs and those using the recipe cards. We also gained positive feedback from our members who recorded a reduction in energy consumption!
